A 19-year-old man who was one of three men suspected to be involved in the kidnapping of doctors Rudradeva Sharma and Prem Naidoo was on Monday evening pointed out following an identification parade as the person who took the phones of the doctors just minutes before the kidnapping occurred.
Senior police sources told Guardian Media that the other injured suspect in the case a 17-year-old minor from Lady Hailes Avenue was expected to be discharged from the San Fernando General Hospital late yesterday evening and taken to a booking station for minors at the Oropouche Police Station.
Investigators say that a report has been submitted to the DPP for his perusal- and investigators are awaiting further instructions from the DPP.
Investigators say Sharma, 38 from La Romaine, a medical doctor at the San Fernando General Hospital and Naidoo, 37 of Palmiste had finished their shift around 10 pm last Tuesday and had gone to Pleasantville where they purchased marijuana.
The doctors then went to Rushworth Street, Extension, San Fernando where Sharma parked his white Honda CRV SUV.
While they were smoking three men, one armed with a firearm approached and robbed them of their mobile phones.
The suspects tied up the doctors and placed them in the back of the vehicle and drove the SUV to the Solomon Hochoy Highway.
Investigators say that upon approaching Macaulay, Claxton Bay around 1:50 a.m Wednesday. the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to flip several times before stopping in the grass.
Police and medical personnel responded and the occupants were taken to hospital.
However, Sharma died. The other suspect in the kidnapping Akeeml Marine also died a few days later in hospital.
