The Trinidad and To­ba­go Sol­id Waste Man­age­ment Com­pa­ny Lim­it­ed (SWM­COL) says the fire at the Gua­napo Land­fill has been ex­tin­guished and the site will re­sume nor­mal op­er­a­tions to­day (Mon­day) for the ac­cep­tance of mu­nic­i­pal waste.

The fire start­ed on Sat­ur­day af­ter­noon and SWM­COL was forced to close the Land­fill on Sun­day.

In a state­ment on Mon­day morn­ing, the com­pa­ny said, “SWM­COL takes this op­por­tu­ni­ty to thank per­sons with­in the fence line com­mu­ni­ties for their pa­tience dur­ing the process of ex­tin­guish­ing the fire and we apol­o­gize for any in­con­ve­nience caused due to this un­for­tu­nate is­sue.”
