A taxi driver was shot in the head and his passenger badly beaten after he refused to take two men, who boarded his taxi in Arima, to a specific location on Sunday night.
According to a police report, at about 8.20 pm, a 49-year-old man boarded a Gold coloured Nissan Almera motorcar on Queen Street, Arima, in the vicinity of the Royal Castle food outlet. There were two other men seated already in the back seat of the vehicle, which was driven by a 38-year-old man of Cumuto.
Police said upon reaching the vicinity of St. Alban’s Road in Valencia, one of the back seat passengers asked the driver to be taken into St. Alban’s Road. However, the driver refused the passenger’s request. One of the back seat passengers then pulled out a firearm and announced a robbery.
Reports are that the two rear seat passengers took control of the vehicle and proceeded to Block 5 in Wallerfield, Arima, where the driver and the 49-year-old passenger were separated. The driver was shot in the head whilst the passenger was beaten.
The fake passengers then escaped in the vehicle.
Both victims were taken to the Arima Health Facility by passers-by where they were treated for their injuries and warded.
Initial reports had indicated that both victims had died.
