Ten days after they staged a peaceful protest in Port-of-Spain, the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) is again calling on teachers to come out in their numbers on November 5, to demonstrate in San Fernando.
The unanimous vote was taken during an emergency meeting of TTUTA’s General Council last evening.
The meeting was held eight days after hundreds of teachers heeded the call by TTUTA to march through the streets of the capital city to protest stalled wage negotiations.
For teachers not wanting to participate in the march, TTUTA President Lynsley Doodhai advised them to use the day to rest and reflect.
Meanwhile, teachers across the nation will remain away from classes tomorrow as TTUTA hosts its’ annual national convention.
Doodhai confirmed conventions would be held in all eight educational districts.
The theme for this year - Young Teachers: The Future of the Profession is the same as that for World Teachers’ Day which was celebrated on October 5.
Among the topics to be discussed will be the challenges being faced by persons entering the profession and the remuneration being offered.
