A Roman Catholic priest told scores of family, friends and well-wishers gathered to say farewell to Tobago’s first 2019 murder victim Dwarika Moses that his death confirmed the presence of evil.
At the standing room only service at the St Joseph RC Church in Scarborough, parish priest Father Leslie Tang Kai said: “Brothers and sisters we live in a world where actions like this confirm to us that evil is real.” he said.
“Evil is so, so real that we question, ‘Do they believe on the sovereign or do they believe in themselves and getting their own way, so they are prepared to do whatever to get what they want’.”
The charred remains of Moses, 20, of Les Coteaux, were discovered just before the 2am on January 16 at Belmont Road in Hope. Firemen responding to reports of fire discovered his car fully engulfed in flames, but his identity was only confirmed after an autopsy was done by pathologist Dr Easlyn Mc Donald Burris at the Scarborough Hospital Mortuary last Friday. It showed that he was shot in the head and then set on fire.
The family is yet to come to terms with Dwarika’s death.
Cherish Moses, the victim’s cousin said: “There are three stages of grief: denial, adjustment and acceptance and although we are all here today, we still can’t believe somebody could have done that to him.”
She described Moses as a loving and jovial person whose smile lit up a room.
Investigations are continuing into Dwarika’s death.
ACP, Tobago, Sharon Clarke-Blake told Guardian Media: “There are some leads and we are working on them.”
