A Republic Day river lime ended in tragedy when a teenager drowned at the Valencia River Resort.
The victim was identified as David Ramlogan, 17, of Jairsingh Village, Coalmine.
Police said Ramlogan had gone into the water around 5.30 pm when he got into difficulties and disappeared.
People who were bathing at the time raised an alarm after he did not resurface.
Family members and friends went in search of him. He was found underwater and taken to the shore in a semi-conscious state.
A paramedic who was present performed Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on Ramlogan but he failed to respond. The teen was then taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital in an EHA ambulance where he was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors.
A report was made to the Valencia Police Post and ASP Robain, Sgt Pierre and Ag Cpl Ramjug responded.
