A 14-year-old boy re­mained ward­ed in a sta­ble con­di­tion at hos­pi­tal yes­ter­day, af­ter be­ing shot by his cousin as the two were play­ing with a gun they found.

Po­lice said the two boys re­port­ed­ly found the firearm in a forest­ed area at Cake Lands, La Canoa Road, San­ta Cruz; and were pre­tend­ing to shoot one an­oth­er when the in­ci­dent oc­curred.

Of­fi­cers of the San­ta Cruz CID and North East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force re­spond­ed to re­ports of a shoot­ing in the area, around 9:30 am on Oc­to­ber 24.

The vic­tim was shot in the low­er left leg.

The of­fi­cers took the teenag­er to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex, Mt Hope – where he was treat­ed and ward­ed up to yes­ter­day.

Of­fi­cers lat­er re­cov­ered a shot­gun and one 12-gauge car­tridge cas­ing.

The vic­tim along with his fa­ther was lat­er in­ter­viewed by law­men at hos­pi­tal.
