The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) will provide Tuco Tobago zone with funding for this year’s calypso competition and tent activities for Carnival 2019.
The agreement was reached between Tuco Tobago Zone and the Tobago House of Assembly.
The attorney for Tuco Martin George said for the Calypso competition activities the THA has agreed to provide Tuco with 800,000 and they have said that the check will be issued to that organisation on Tuesday.
In relation to the Calypso tent, the Magnificent Glow, George said Tuco would be putting forward a budget presentation of $827,000 for consideration. The budget Tuco has will be presented to the executive council and a decision will be made on Wednesday.
President of Tuco’s Tobago Zone Ainsley King said he is happy he took a stand.
He said, “We are moving forward really and I thank the Calypso fraternity for standing their ground and ensuring that what was happening came to a stop.”
He said he saw the outcome as a milestone for the entire calypso fraternity.
Meanwhile, coming out of the meeting George said the lawyer representing the Tobago House of Assembly was able to confirm “that the Tobago Festivals Commission is not a not a legally registered entity.”
“We requested from Mr Ray Sandy the genesis and the origins of the Tobago Festivals Commission setting out the terms and conditions of its parameters and jurisdiction of the Tobago Festival’s Commission,” he said.
The Tobago Festivals Commission was established in May 2010 to provide managerial support and strategic direction for cultural expositions and festivals in Tobago.
However, the commission operated without a Board of Commissioners from 2013 to 2018.
