Three people are now homeless after a fire destroyed their home at the Beetham Gardens on Sunday night.
According to a report, at about 8.20 pm Randell Ross, of Ninth Street, was at a friend’s house on Eighth Street when he got a message that his house was on fire.
There was no one in the house at the time.
The Fire Service was contacted and officers from the Wrightson Road Fire Station responded and put out the fire.
The structure, consisting of three rooms—a bedroom, a kitchen and a toilet and bath—, was completed destroyed.
Fire officials estimated the value of the structure to be $20,000.
Ross was not at the premises yon Monday when Guardian Media visited. However, residents said earlier in the morning, a CEPEP crew assisted him in clean-up operations and he was visited by officials of the National Commission for Self Help Ltd.
Guardian Media noticed a three-tonne truck parked in the yard which was also burnt. Residents said the truck belonged to Ross and added that he would have lost that in the fire also.
While residents are claiming arson, fire officials are yet to determine the actual cause and origin of the fire.
Investigations are continuing.
