A police officer was among three people killed overnight in road traffic accidents. Police Constable Heston Davidson, who was attached to the North Eastern Divisiom Task Force, died on the spot when his Nissan B-15 crashed into a tree near the Santa Rosa Race Track in Arima shortly before 1 am.
The other accident took place at around 10.30 pm Wednesday near the Immigration Detention Centre in Wallerfield. Details are sketchy but police said at least five cars were involved in the collision which claimed the life of Sheldon Ali, a father of one. At the time of the accident Ali, 37, an employee of Intercept Security Services, was driving to his Ramnath Terrace, Sangre Grande, home after finishing work at Piarco International Airport.
Also involved in that collision was Sherwin Joseph, who was driving a BMW. He was seriously injured and was taken to the Arima District Health Facility, then transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he is warded in critical condition.
Frankie Ramcharan, 64, of John Road, Piparo, was killed in a hit and run accident in Princes Town. Police said Ramcharan was riding his bicycle along Torrib Trace, New Grant, when a Mazda CX5 ploughed into him. He died on the spot.
The driver of the car is now being questioned by the police. and the vehicle has been impounded at the Tableland police station. Cpl Narine of the Tableland police station is continuing investigations.
