Man in court charged with bar murder

A 25-year-old Arima man has appeared in court in connection with a Christmas Eve shooting which claimed the lives of two men, including an army sergeant. Foluke Clinton appeared before Magistrate Ejenny Espinet in the Sangre Grande First Court. Clinton was charged with the murder of Kern “Chucky” Mitchell, shooting with intent and possession of a firearm. During the shooting at a bar along the Valencia Main Road at around 2.30 am, Mitchell, 24, of Calvary Hill, Arima, and Sgt George Sheldon Froix, both died after sustaining gunshot wounds.


Clinton also was injured during the shootout but received treatment at the Sangre Grande District Hospital. He was charged with the offences upon being released from hospital. However, Clinton has not been charged with Froix’s murder as the investigation is ongoing. The charges were laid by ASP Odette Lewis of the Eastern Division. He is due to reappaer in court on February 8.
