The Tobago House of Assembly is celebrating its 39th anniversary by hosting a series of events under the umbrella of “Tobago Day” celebrations.
December 4, is a special day for Tobagonians, as the island observes the re-establishment of the current Tobago House of Assembly.
In 2010 “Assembly Day”, celebrations were implemented and then Chief Secretary Orville London said the day should also be used to highlight the “contribution to the development of Tobago over the years.”
This years’ celebration kicked off on December 1, with “Restaurant Week” which will run until December 8.
Today, December 4, there was a Triathlon at the Buccoo beach, followed by a thanksgiving ceremony at the Scarborough Library Facility and the Tobago Day Awards will be held later this evening.
Calypsonians The Mighty Shadow and Calypso Rose and Special Olympics Gold Medallist Akeem Stewart are among the persons who will be honored at Tobago Day Awards.
Celebrations continue tomorrow with a Tobago Day Debate. Young secondary school students conduct a debate and manage the Tobago House of Assembly Plenary session.
This year’s event will end with a Tobago Day Expo and Sports and Family day on December 6, at the Buccoo Integrated Facility.
