One man is now in police custody following the murder of 23-year-old Israel Collin in Mason Hall on Tuesday night, as Tobago’s homicide toll rises to seven for the year.
Guardian Media was told Collin, also known as “Skeng”, was shot dead around 8.10 pm after a grey Nissan Tiida stopped abruptly outside Basik’s Mini Mart at Sandy River. Several gunmen got out and opened fire before escaping in the same vehicle.
Collin, who lived in the area, was found under a tent on the southern side of the road with multiple gunshot wounds.
DMO Dr Peters pronounced him dead at the scene, and his mother later identified the body.
Crime Scene officers recovered 24 spent nine-millimetre shell casings.
Acting on intelligence gathered at the scene, officers detained a Mason Hall man along Northside Road. He remains in custody assisting police.
Investigations are continuing.
