Head of Tobago’s Innovative Democratic Alliance (IDA) Dr Denise Tsoiafatt Angus is mourning the death of her mother.
The party, which is contesting the December 6 election against the People’s National Movement and the Progressive Democratic Patriots, yesterday announced that Tobago stalwart, Mrs Marjorie Tsoiafatt had passed on.
“As the proprietor of Tsoi’s Pharmacy, along with her late husband Eugene Tsoiafatt, the family name has been etched into the canons of Tobago’s history,” the release said.
The party said that the senior Tsoiafatt was always going the extra mile to assist and support many Tobagonians “especially in their medical emergencies and crisis.”
“Mrs Tsoiafatt or “mom” as she was affectionately referred to, was a person with genuine charity and empathy for others. Her quipped remarks challenged you to rise out of self-pity, and her penchant for providing workable solutions for people’s issues were a hallmark of her character,” the IDA said.
“Her trustworthy and caring nature was always on display during her many years of service as the Hospital pharmacist in Tobago, as well as in her family practice,” the party said.
In an immediate response, the Tobago Council of the PNM offered their condolences.
“As a professional, a wife, a mother, and an entrepreneur, Majorie was a fine example to women in our society, and was loved and admired by many,” the PNM Tobago Council said.
“She, along with her husband, made sterling contributions to the Tobago community and to the national community, in the public service, as well as in the private sector,” they added.
The PNM also said that the island has lost “a formidable woman.”
“The Tsoiafatt family and Tobago by extension, have lost a pillar of strength and grace,” the Tobago PNM Council noted.
The PDP also offered its “sincerest sympathies” to Tsoiafatt Angus on the passing of her mother.
Deputy political leader of the PDP Farley Augustine yesterday said that the senior Tsoiafatt “gave a whole lot to Tobago’s development.”
“Mrs Tsoiafatt and her husband were staples in the Tobago community with regards to healthcare and pharmaceuticals,” Augustine said.
“I wish that God will grant Dr Angus strength and comfort in this very difficult time,” he said.
“Deepest condolences to the entire family,” Augustine said.
