A 33-year-old man who allegedly chopped his neighbour after an argument over toilet paper has been denied bail.
Masimba James of Gamble Street Extension, Siparia, appeared before Magistrate Ava Vandenberg-Bailey via video conference from the Siparia Police Station on Monday. He was charged with wounding with intent by WP Cooper.
The charge stemmed from an incident on March 31 in which he allegedly accused his neighbour of wasting toilet paper and they engaged in a heated exchange of words. It is alleged that James left and returned with a cutlass which he allegedly used to chop his neighbour to the back of his head.
Prosecutor Sgt Starr Jacob who is assigned to the Siparia First Magistrates Court objected to bail because James had pending matters for wounding and robbery offences.
He was represented by attorney Everard Davidson.
The magistrate remanded him into custody.
James’s matter will next be heard on May 4.
