Officers of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch (THPB) cracked down on errant motorists during a 48-hour road policing operation that earned praise from Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro.
Personnel from the Debe and Freeport Units, along with officers from other station districts, carried out the exercises on Monday and Tuesday.
The operations targeted major thoroughfares, including the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, Uriah Butler Highway, Churchill Roosevelt Highway and Wrightson Road.
Officers issued 163 Electronic Fixed Penalty Notices for various traffic offences.
These included failing to wear a seatbelt, improper overtaking, using a mobile device while driving, breaching traffic signs, driving with defective tyres, no inspection papers, and driving without a certificate of insurance.
Inspector Doodnath, Woman Inspector Mohan, Acting Inspector Jitmansingh, and Acting Inspector Gayapersad of the THPB coordinated the exercises.
Commissioner Guevarro applauded the officers’ work and warned drivers to follow the law.
“This relentless, zero tolerance approach to road traffic breaches will ensure the safety of all road users. I wish to thank the officers for their dedication and to also urge motorists to not run afoul of the law, or you will pay the penalty.”
