The Police Service is reminding the public of special, temporary traffic road restrictions which will be in effect in Port-of-Spain today, Wednesday 24 August 2022, from noon to 11 pm, to facilitate the Pan and Powder Steelband Parade.
A PanTrinbago initiative, the Parade is part of this country’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations marking 60 years of Independence.
“These restrictions, in accordance with the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act Chapter 48:50, will take effect from 12 noon to 11 pm on August 24,” the Police Service notes in an advisory.
“Citizens are strongly encouraged to adhere to all instructions by uniformed police officers during the course of the festivities and restrictions and to adhere to all traffic regulations,” it added.
The Parade route, as identified by PanTrinbago, will see steelbands begin at City Hall, then move up Pembroke Street, move across to Keate Street, and then move up Frederick Street right up to the Queen’s Park Savannah.
Motorists and other road users are advised that traffic will be restricted in the following areas:
■ Knox Street between Pembroke Street and Frederick Street from 12 noon to 8 pm
■ From 6 pm to 11 pm, the following streets are restricted:
□ Pembroke Street from Knox Street to Keate Street;
□ Keate Street from Pembroke Street to Frederick Street;
□ Frederick northwards from Keate Street to the Queen’s Park Savannah.
Featured steelbands in today's Parade include: Massy Trinidad All Stars, BP Renegades Steel Orchestra, Hadco Phase II Pan Groove, Desperadoes, NGC Couva Joylanders, First Citizens Supernovas, Nutrien Silver Stars, and many others.
