The following is the official statement released by the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce (T&T Chamber), in response to the Prime Minister’s announcement that Government was moving up the re-start date for several businesses from Saturday 24th May, to Thursday 21st May 2020…
T&T CHAMBER PLEASED WITH EARLY PHASE 2
We are happy The Government has agreed to reopen the manufacturing, construction, automotive repair, tyre shops, laundry and dry-cleaning sectors early. We see this as protecting employment and generating foreign exchange earnings.
We fully support the desire to protect lives and we believe Trinidad and Tobago has taken all the steps to do so. We are confident that this country will be recognised as having the one of the best responses to COVID-19 as we have had no cases reported over the past 21 days.
The T&T Chamber has already circulated the guidelines from the Ministry of Health to our members to follow. We also support the No Mask-No Service policy and ask all businesses and consumers to adhere.
Based on the success of the actions taken in the next phase, we look forward to The Government being able to accelerate the opening of other sectors.
