Trinidad and Tobago and surrounding marine areas will be under an Adverse Weather Alert/YELLOW Level for most of today, once it is activated at 9 am.
An advisory issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) says the alert will remain in effect until 5 pm.
Met Service forecasters say periods of rain and/or showers of varying intensities are expected today, Tuesday 25 October 2022. There is a high (70%) chance of heavy showers and thunderstorms that can produce intense rainfall in excess of 25 millimetres.
Forecasters note that Gusty winds in excess of 55 km/h may be experienced, especially in the vicinity of heavy showers/thunderstorms. In addition, street/flash flooding and localized ponding are also likely in heavy downpours.
Marine interests are advised that seas can become agitated at times in sheltered areas. Landslides/landslips are also possible in areas so prone.
The Met Service is urging the public to avoid wading or driving through flood waters.
Also, the public is encouraged to continue monitoring weather conditions and official updates, which can be accessed from the Met Service (www.metoffice.gov.tt) and the ODPM (www.odpm.gov.tt).
