The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) continues its drive to keep illegal weapons off the streets and out of the hands of criminals.
One man was arrested and a firearm and quantity of ammunition seized by officers of the Northern Division’s Emergency Response Patrol, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Maturita district on Sunday 5 April 2020.
Police reports indicate that officers were on mobile patrol around 3:00 pm, when they received information about a man armed with a gun in a white Nissan Almera motor vehicle.
The officers proceeded to Maturita Trace where they were able to intercept the vehicle in question. There was a lone male occupant in it at the time.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers found one Beretta pistol, fitted with a magazine loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition. It had been wrapped in a green jersey.
The driver, a 50-year-old man of Maturita, was arrested in connection with the find.
And officers of the Port of Spain Division Task Force seized two firearms and a quantity of ammunition during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the district, exercise between 9:00pm, on Sunday 5th April 2020 and 7:00am on Monday 6th April 2020.
The weapons were discovered in a vehicle which had been reported stolen.
According to official police reports, the officers were on exercise executing several search warrants and conducting stop and search exercises in Port of Spain, when they obtained information that led them to the East Dry River district.
Once there, they observed a parked, white Nissan X-Trail motor vehicle with the windows down and the engine running. Investigations revealed the vehicle bore false registration plates and had been reported stolen.
Officers conducted a further search of the area during which they observed two men standing on the side of the roadway. Upon seeing the officers, the men dropped two object resembling firearms and escaped.
Two Glock pistols and a quantity of ammunition were found at the scene and seized.
Investigations are ongoing in both cases.
