Of­fi­cials in the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice are cur­rent­ly en­gaged in the test­ing stage of the roll-out of an on­line ap­pli­ca­tion for a Firearm Users Li­cence (FUL).

This was re­vealed on Tues­day dur­ing a me­dia brief­ing at the Po­lice Ad­min­is­tra­tion Build­ing, Port-of-Spain.

Po­lice Com­mis­sion­er Al­lis­ter Gue­var­ro said the TTPS Dig­i­tal FUL Ap­pli­ca­tion Fo­rum had utilised 1,000 ap­pli­cants in this first in­stance.

He ad­vised that a re­cent ad­ver­tise­ment in the print­ed me­dia had pub­lished the file num­bers of the FUL hold­ers that were re­quired to get in touch with the Firearms Per­mit Unit, “In or­der to fa­cil­i­tate the process.”

Gue­var­ro said, “This is a test­ing stage, and we would look and we would mon­i­tor and see how it goes be­fore we can make par­tic­u­lar tweaks to it.”

The top cop added, “This is tak­ing it in­to a dif­fer­ent di­rec­tion.”

“Digi­tis­ing the ap­pli­ca­tion of FUL files will in­deed be of great ben­e­fit, not on­ly to the TTPS but for the mem­bers of the pub­lic.” - An­na-Lisa Paul
