Five years after they were caught stealing avocados, two Freeport men were found guilty and fined $10,000 each by a Chaguanas Magistrate.
Brian Boodram and Lathan Baksh aka "Bullhead" both of Arena Road, Freeport were charged by PC Boodramsingh of the Predial Larceny Squad. They appeared before Magistrate Wendy Bally in the Chaguanas Second Magistrates Court.
The court heard that on July 17th 2014 around 3:15 pm, the officers were on mobile patrol along Rodney Road, Freeport, when they were alerted by a farmer that some men were seen entering an agricultural farm.
The officers quickly responded and upon entering the land, found Boodram and Baksh on the compound with 231 avocadoes in their possession.
The avocadoes were valued at $2,310.
They both pleaded not guilty but after a five-year trial, they were found guilty by Magistrate Bally and fined $10,000 each. In default, they will each serve nine months of hard labour.
