Crime Watch talk show host Ian Alleyne is still in shock after he discovered two of his own employees, one of them a former journalist and ex-convict, stealing from him.
Alleyne, who is known for highlighting major crimes in T&T and assisting in the solving of some crimes including robberies told the T&T Guardian that he was forced to investigate "missing monies" which he had stored in his vehicle on Friday.
The money, totalling $12,000, was part payment for a moulding company who is currently doing work for him on his private residence which is currently under construction.
Alleyne said on Friday night he discovered the money missing and subsequently viewed surveillance footage which showed one of his employees going to his car which was parked outside his studio in Endeavour in Chaguanas during the one hour period he was on set for.
"It showed the worker taking my keys from the studio and going to my car and opening it leaving the door wide open...then a few seconds after, the second worker, who did not show up for work that day run into the car and start down searching it, " Alleyne said.
Alleyne said he gave up the footage to the police and on Monday at about 5 pm officers led by ASP Smith went to the studio where they arrested both employees.
Guardian Media was told that they later confessed to the crime.
Up to press time, the two suspects - a 36 year old man of Curepe, and a 27 year old man of San Fernando were still in police custody at the Chaguanas Police Station.
One of the men was employed with Crime Watch since 2016, while the other, since 2017.
Alleyne said for several months he had noticed money disappearing but never thought was his own workers who helped him in sourcing facts for crime stories and going along with him to crime scenes.
"I always did my best to help them and I am left in shock that this happened to me. I felt sorry for them but crime has to stop. People who do crime will have to pay," Alleyne said.
