Two men were arrested during a roadblock exercise after police officers found a firearm and ammunition in the vehicle they occupied.
According to a police report, at about 10 am on Wednesday PC Andrews and PC Wilson were at the intersection of the Priority Bus Route and Pashley Street conducting a road check exercise when they had cause to stop a white Mitsubishi L 300 driven by a man from Johnny King Road in Aranguez.
A search of the vehicle was conducted and the officers found one Berretta 9 mm pistol with 13 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, six of which had the markings TTR.
The gun and ammunition were found hidden under a blue knapsack on the centre seat of the vehicle. The driver and the lone passenger who is from #51 Chootoo Street in El Socorro were subsequently arrested and taken to the Besson Street Police Station for further questioning.
They are expected to be charged with possession of arms and ammunition.
