Homicide investigators believe that two men who were found murdered in Moruga on Tuesday were killed for their cars.
The bloodied bodies of Vincent “Waxie” St Bernard, of Station Street, Siparia and Dennison Baptiste, 34, of Blitz Village, Pleasantville, San Fernando were found lying along Edward Trace, Basse Terre around 2 pm.
According to police, a passerby was walking near Maingot Trace when he saw the bodies of two men on the roadside and contacted Moruga police.
Officers arrived and found St Bernard and Baptiste bleeding from gunshot wounds to their chest but they were already dead.
ASP Steve Persad, Cpl Smith and a team of officers from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region three responded and learned that the men had gone to Edward Trace to sell a car.
Investigators said that Baptiste had taken a friend’s black Nissan Sunny B-13 to meet a buyer. He was accompanied by St Bernard, a taxi driver who worked the San Fernando to La Romaine route. St Bernard followed in his Nissan Almera.
Investigators are still trying to piece together what led to both men being shot and their cars being stolen.
While a robbery seemed to be the obvious motive, police say that Edward Trace is known for its marijuana plantations. They added that Baptiste was arrested on previous occasions for drug trafficking, break-in, larceny and wounding.
A search was made in the area for possible suspects and the cars but no one arrested nor was the vehicles recovered.
Police are also investigating two separate murders which occurred in D’Abadie on Tuesday night and another near Nelson Street, Port-of-Spain.
The victim in east Trinidad has not yet been identified and police said Shawn Raymond, also known as Bean, was shot and killed at approximately 10.45 am yesterday at Cockerton Street a side street that separates George and Nelson Streets.
