Two people have died in separate accidents in South Trinidad.
The first accident occurred around 11:15 pm near the Macaulay Flyover in Claxton Bay.
Investigators said Jamal James, 30, of Ragoobar Lands, Gasparillo was driving a silver Hyundai Tuscon in company with Quashie Dickson, 23, of Alexandre Settlement Santa Flora when upon reaching the Flyover, James exited the south bound lane and collided head-on with a gold-coloured Nissan Almera driven by Sergius Bhola, 26, of Orphan Road, Libertville, Rio Claro.
A Venezuelan national who was sitting in the front seat of Bhola’s car, died on impact. He remained unidentified up to press time. Bhola was trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut out by emergency responders. Both he and the two other survivors were rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital. Bhola was said to be warded in a critical condition. Both vehicles were wrecked and taken to St Margaret’s police station. A party of officers led by Supt Nobbie from the Southern Division visited the scene.
Meanwhile, in the second accident, Nazmoon John, 63 St Cross Road Princes Town died following a crash at the M1 Ring Road, Princes Town. Investigators said around 2 pm, John was sitting in the back seat of a white Nissan AD wagon which was proceeding west along the road when upon reaching Malgretoute, the driver lost control of his car and collided with a silver van driven by Devanand Samaroo.
John died on the spot. Samaroo and the driver of the AD wagon were rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where they were given treatment. Samaroo suffered minor injuries.
Autopsies will be done on both bodies on Monday. Senior Supt Wayne Mohammed and officers of the St Margaret’s and Princes Town police stations are continuing investigations.
