Police are investigating two separate murders that occurred hours apart on Monday night.
In the first incident, two men visited the Maloney Police Station at around 9.15 pm and reported that someone had been killed on Sergeant Road, Red Hill, D’Abadie.
Officers on patrol went to the scene and, guided by neighbours, found the body of 33-year-old Rennie James.
James was lying on his couch with a head wound. A district medical officer was called and declared him dead.
Hours later, at around 11 pm, residents of Gonzales reported hearing gunshots near Lastique Street and alerted the police.
Officers found 23-year-old Jaheim Thomas bleeding from gunshot wounds and gasping for air.
He was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at around 11.30 pm.
Investigators recovered 31 spent 5.56 shells, three spent 9 mm shells, and four live rounds of 9 mm ammunition at the scene. Police said Thomas was a known firearm offender.
Officers from the Region II and Region I Homicide Bureaus are investigating both murders.
