Crime scene investigators have just left the scene at the corner of Abercromby and Queen Janelle Commissiong Streets where a body was found. It was one of two murders recorded overnight in Port-of-Spain.
The body of a man discovered at about 6 am bore what appeared to be marks of violence. The area was cordoned off and investigators from the Port-of-Spain Division and the Homicide Bureau processed the scene. The victim has not yet been identified
In the second incident, at about 7.45 pm on Thursday of officers responded to a report of domestic violence at 30A Flagstaff Hill, Long Circular Road, St James. Upon arrival, they met with the suspect, a 42-year-old foreign national. The officers asked him the whereabouts of a close female relative and he told them she was inside sleeping.
The officers then called out to the woman, Jhandrys Espinoza, a national of Venezuela, but there was no response.
They entered the apartment and went to the bedroom where they found the woman's body on a bed covered with a sheet.
The suspect then confessed that at about 7.25 pm he got into an argument with the woman when she returned home from work strangled her with his hands.
He was taken into custody and the body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre where an autopsy is expected to be performed today.
