A Debe man’s life was spared by gunmen who held him down while they shot and killed his friend yesterday.
According to reports, the 32-year-old man was liming with his friend Harish Baldath along Wellington Road, Debe. Around 12.30 am they were both standing in front of Baldath’s home when a white Nissan Wingroad wagon stopped in front of them and two men wearing black hoodies got out.
Baldath ran inside his house while his friend ran to the back.
However, they were chased and one of the gunmen held on to the friend while the other banged on the door of the house and called out to Balnath by his nickname, “Doll.”
The friend told police he then heard several loud explosions and both suspects ran back to the wagon and drove off. When he checked the house, he found Balnath lying motionless on the floor.
He reported the murder to the Highway Patrol Unit’s base in Debe. Up to yesterday, no one was found.
Farmer found dead
A Penal farmer, who left home on Monday night to deliver goods to a vendor in San Fernando, has been found dead.
Johnny Ramjattan, 53, of Scotts Road, was found with his face bashed in along Concorde Road, La Romaine.
Police said when Ramjattan, a father of four, did not return home on Monday night, his family made a missing person’s report to Penal police around 5.30 am on Tuesday.
The family also posted a photo of him and his vehicle on Facebook, asking the public for help to locate him.
Hours later, someone contacted the family and informed them that the vehicle was found along Concorde Road. Although police and his family searched the area, he was not found. As the search resumed yesterday, a family friend found his body near the area where the vehicle was found. It was taken to the Forensic Science Centre where an autopsy was expected to be done.
