Two po­lice of­fi­cers are sched­uled to ap­pear be­fore a Mas­ter of the Crim­i­nal Court of Port-of-Spain to­mor­row, af­ter they were ar­rest­ed and charged with Mis­be­hav­iour in Pub­lic Of­fice.

In a state­ment to­day the TTPS said on May 10, 2024, No. 17926 Cor­po­ral Aman­do Williams was ap­pre­hend­ed and for­mal­ly charged with the of­fence of Mis­be­hav­iour in Pub­lic Of­fice, specif­i­cal­ly lar­ce­ny, con­trary to com­mon law.

It al­so said sim­i­lar­ly, No.19702 Po­lice Con­sta­ble Kevon St. John was ar­rest­ed and charged with the same of­fence.

The TTPS said on Tues­day 19th March 2024, and Tues­day 9th April 9th, 2024, two re­ports of lar­ce­ny in­volv­ing US cur­ren­cy were filed against sev­er­al of­fi­cers of the West­ern Di­vi­sion.

It said these in­ci­dents prompt­ed a dili­gent in­ves­ti­ga­tion led by Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent (Ag) Gor­don, un­der the su­per­vi­sion of Su­per­in­ten­dent (Ag) Mon­trichard, Woman As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dent of Po­lice (Ag) Bac­chus, Woman In­spec­tor (Ag) Guy, and oth­er ded­i­cat­ed per­son­nel.

On Tues­day, March 19th, 2024, at around 10:00 am, while trav­el­ling east along the Beetham High­way near Mar­itime Plaza af­ter leav­ing Port of Spain, a man was al­leged­ly sig­nalled to pull over two po­lice ve­hi­cles.

Up­on stop­ping, he was in­formed by an of­fi­cer that they had re­ceived in­for­ma­tion al­leg­ing his pos­ses­sion of an il­le­gal firearm. Sub­se­quent­ly, a search of his ve­hi­cle en­sued, re­veal­ing sev­er­al en­velopes con­tain­ing a to­tal of $17,000 USD. Sub­se­quent­ly, a re­port was lodged with the Pro­fes­sion­al Stan­dards Bu­reau, ini­ti­at­ing in­ves­tiga­tive mea­sures.

On April 9th, 2024, a sim­i­lar in­ci­dent oc­curred when the man was dri­ving through Port of Spain. He was al­leged­ly ap­proached by of­fi­cers who in­formed him they had in­for­ma­tion which sug­gest­ed that he had firearms and am­mu­ni­tion in the ve­hi­cle and were go­ing to search the ve­hi­cle.
