Two PriceSmart employees held for stealing from company

An em­ploy­ee of the Click and Go De­part­ment, PriceS­mart, Movi­etowne, In­vaders Bay, Mu­cu­rapo was ar­rest­ed on Oc­to­ber 1, af­ter he was found with a quan­ti­ty of items from the store which he could not ac­count for.

Po­lice said the em­ploy­ee was held af­ter a se­cu­ri­ty guard ob­served him stand­ing next to a trol­ley in one of the aisles, which con­tained items in­clud­ing one car jump starter val­ued at $699.95; one Mon­ster XX blue­tooth speak­er worth $1995.95; one pack of JVC ear­buds val­ued at $699.95; and one Sam­sung A55G cell­phone cost­ing $2799.95.

Af­ter re­view­ing CCTV footage record­ed at 2 pm on Tues­day, the guard con­front­ed the em­ploy­ee around 4.35 pm, af­ter the sus­pect was seen wheel­ing the trol­ley out to his car, fol­low­ing which he loaded the items in­to the trunk.

Af­ter re­quest­ing the re­ceipt for the items, the guard de­tained the sus­pect when he was un­able to pro­duce it as he be­lieved the items were not paid for.

The guard in­formed the man­ag­er who then ac­com­pa­nied the sus­pect to the car-park around 7:05 pm and found the items.

The sus­pect was again un­able to pro­duce the re­ceipt for the items and in­sist­ed they had been pur­chased by his sis­ter.

The sus­pect was lat­er tak­en to the of­fice whilst checks were made to ver­i­fy the pur­chas­es.

It was lat­er con­firmed the items were not in fact paid for, and the sus­pect was sub­se­quent­ly de­tained by se­cu­ri­ty and tak­en to the St James Po­lice Sta­tion where he was hand­ed over to of­fi­cers.

And in a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent at PriceS­mart, Ch­agua­nas, be­tween noon and 2 pm on Sep­tem­ber 26, a se­nior of­fi­cial re­port­ed a cashier did five cash trans­ac­tions for a quan­ti­ty of items.

Some­time af­ter, an au­dit was con­duct­ed and it was re­vealed that no cash or visa pay­ments were col­lect­ed for the said items amount­ing to $72,274.59.

The woman has since been ar­rest­ed.
