A Jamaican national and another man were hospitalised after the vehicle they were in crashed as they were pursued by police after failing to stop in police roadblock over the weekend.
The two men are now warded at the Sangre Grande Hospital.
Police reported that around 6 pm on Sunday they were conducting a roadblock exercise in the Matura district using the ZBB-X-ray vehicle when a car with two occupants was stopped and the driver was asked to pass through the scanner but instead sped off.
The officers pursued the car south along the Toco Main Road but on reaching near the squatting village at Vega de Oropouche, it overturned and crashed into a wire fence on the western side of the roadway. Both occupants were injured and subsequently taken by police to the Sangre Grande Hospital, where they were treated and warded.
After police conducted a tracing on the driver they discovered that he was a Jamaican national. The vehicle was searched by police and nothing illegal was found.
During the exercise, police also conducted 53 stop and search operations and three fixed penalty ticketswere issued.
The exercise was coordinated by Senior Superintendent Augilal, supervised by ASP Gabriel Joseph and included Sgts Renne Katwaroo, Garcia and officers from the Eastern Divisional Task Force, Sangre Grande, Matura and Valencia stations.
