Two years hard labour for man found with shotgun

Thir­ty-three-year-old Si­mon Ma­habir was sen­tenced to two years hard labour for pos­ses­sion of a home­made shot­gun and pos­ses­sion of one round of 12-guage am­mu­ni­tion.

Ma­habir was giv­en two years each per of­fence when he ap­peared vir­tu­al­ly be­fore Mag­is­trate Deb­by Ann Bas­saw at the Rio Claro Mag­is­trates’ Court. The sen­tences are to run con­cur­rent­ly.

Ma­habir, an un­em­ployed man, from New­lands Vil­lage,Guayagua­yare, Ma­yaro, was held on Tues­day by of­fi­cers at­tached to the Ma­yaro Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID) and Task Force, led by Sgt (Ag.) Mo­hammed, dur­ing a firearm erad­i­ca­tion ex­er­cise.

Dur­ing the pe­ri­od 9 am and 12.30 pm on Wednes­day, po­lice of­fi­cers ex­e­cut­ed the ex­er­cise at a gar­den camp in the New­lands Vil­lage, Guayagua­yare, Ma­yaro area where they al­leged­ly found a home­made shot­gun and one round of 12-gauge car­tridge.
