As election campaigning heats up, sitting UNC Alderman Victor Roberts has thrown his support behind PNM candidate for La Brea, Randall Mitchell, snubbing the UNC candidate, trade unionist Clyde Elder.

Roberts, who fell out with the UNC after aligning with Mayaro MP Rushton Paray’s United Patriots slate, has not formally resigned from the UNC party. He said he is awaiting a response to his letter to Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, demanding a financial audit of UNC accounts which is due on April 30.

Despite still wearing a UNC title, Roberts has been a regular face at PNM events and made no apologies for his open endorsement. Taking a direct jab at the UNC’s slogan "Yellow is the code," Roberts declared, "Red is the word," signalling his full embrace of Mitchell and the PNM.

When contacted, Elder declined to comment, saying he has nothing to say about Roberts. Guardian Media has sent a question to Persad-Bissessar and we are awaiting her response.
