Born out of the Revolution in 1969 leading up to the Black Power Movement in 1970, the Village Drums of Freedom Organisation, headed by Gerald Achee and Nyron Greenidge, has remained steadfast over the past 41 years in promoting black culture. Each year the organisation hosts a three-day festival with specific themes in the city that never sleeps–St James. This year the festival dubbed "Drums Salute Dance" is focusing more on drums and dance said Achee, with the team's vision being to bridge gaps and bring cultures together. Over the three day period one can enjoy, food, dance, drumming, poetry, documentaries, rapso, reggae, calypso, fashion and more. The event which began on Friday night, ends this evening and is open to the public.
