A late-night raid at the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca on Tuesday uncovered mobile devices, cannabis, cigarette packages, and handwritten notes believed to be linked to threats made against senior law enforcement officials.
The joint operation followed the circulation of a voice note on social media threatening the lives of top police and prison officials.
The raid took place between 7 pm and 11 pm and targeted several cells within the facility.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the raid was designed to disrupt internal communications that may have supported external threats and to mitigate the risk to law enforcement.
Several handwritten notes recovered during the raid are now under forensic analysis. Investigations into the origin and content of the seized materials are ongoing.
Commissioner Guevarro said the exercise demonstrated the TTPS’ ongoing vigilance and strong collaboration with the prison service.
“It also underscores an unwavering commitment to safeguarding law enforcement personnel and fortifying the country’s correctional infrastructure against illicit activity,” he said.
Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro and Commissioner of Prisons Carlos Corraspe led the exercise, which was coordinated by Deputy Commissioner of Police for Intelligence and Investigations Suzette Martin and Assistant Commissioner of Prisons Lee Davis.
The operation involved multiple units, including the Northern Division CID, the North Central Division Task Force Area East, specialist officers from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, Crime Scene Investigators, and the DCP’s Intelligence and Investigations office.
