The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) celebrated Divali on Friday, highlighting the contributions of women in society. Minister of Public Utilities Barry Padarath referenced the Hindu goddess Mother Lakshmi, noting the example set by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, PSA President Felisha Thomas, and Parliamentary Secretary Shivanna Sam.
Acting CEO Jeevan Joseph said employees’ commitment and expertise provide a “light” to communities.
In his message, Minister Padarath focused on the Hindu goddess Mother Lakshmi, emphasising the honour and respect due to women in society.He pointed to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, PSA President Felisha Thomas, and Parliamentary Secretary Shivanna Sam as leaders who embody the qualities of Mother Lakshmi in their roles, noting that a society cannot succeed without recognising the role of women.
The event featured performances by local artists, including the father-daughter duo Neeshard and Katelyn Sultan, the Kiss Natraj Dance Group, and a Ramleela portrayal by the Shiva Ghana Organisation.
