The Wa­ter and Sew­er­age Au­thor­i­ty (WASA) cel­e­brat­ed Di­vali on Fri­day, high­light­ing the con­tri­bu­tions of women in so­ci­ety. Min­is­ter of Pub­lic Util­i­ties Bar­ry Padarath ref­er­enced the Hin­du god­dess Moth­er Lak­sh­mi, not­ing the ex­am­ple set by Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar, PSA Pres­i­dent Fe­l­isha Thomas, and Par­lia­men­tary Sec­re­tary Shiv­an­na Sam.

Act­ing CEO Jee­van Joseph said em­ploy­ees’ com­mit­ment and ex­per­tise pro­vide a “light” to com­mu­ni­ties.

In his mes­sage, Min­is­ter Padarath fo­cused on the Hin­du god­dess Moth­er Lak­sh­mi, em­pha­sis­ing the ho­n­our and re­spect due to women in so­ci­ety.He point­ed to Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar, PSA Pres­i­dent Fe­l­isha Thomas, and Par­lia­men­tary Sec­re­tary Shiv­an­na Sam as lead­ers who em­body the qual­i­ties of Moth­er Lak­sh­mi in their roles, not­ing that a so­ci­ety can­not suc­ceed with­out recog­nis­ing the role of women.

The event fea­tured per­for­mances by lo­cal artists, in­clud­ing the fa­ther-daugh­ter duo Nee­shard and Kate­lyn Sul­tan, the Kiss Na­traj Dance Group, and a Ram­leela por­tray­al by the Shi­va Ghana Or­gan­i­sa­tion.
