Thousands of customers in North Trinidad and across Tobago are without a water supply currently, due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
According to the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) – high turbidity caused by the heavy rainfall and clogged screens caused by flooded river conditions; as well as a power failure have led to the disruption.
WASA said the persistent rainfall had interrupted operations at several surface water treatment facilities.
In Trinidad – eight facilities were affected including those at Tompire, Quare, Guanapo, La Pastora, I&N; Acono; La Fillette; and Las Cuevas.
In Tobago – facilities at Hillsborough West and Richmond were also impacted by increased turbidity and clogged screens – whilst four facilities at Bloody Bay; King’s Bay; Highland Road; and Charlotteville WTP were impacted by power outages.
Meanwhile, the public is advised that the WASA’s head office in St Joseph, has been closed due to a power failure at the location.
