The Water and Sewerage Authority (the Authority) advises that its main Contractor has been mobilized, and is on-site, to begin excavation works as the investigation continues to determine the cause of the appearance of two (2) sinkholes, along Main Street, Beetham Gardens, Port of Spain.
A third event, a suspected breach of the Authority’s sewer line under the river bed in the area of CCC Boulevard is also being investigated. At this time, there is no evidence of any effluent discharge into the Beetham Gardens community.
Coordination efforts between agencies are ongoing, due to the existence of several sub-surface infrastructure in the area of the collapsed roadway.
In this regard, the Authority is committed to ensuring the safety of all stakeholders by ensuring a safe environment while investigative efforts are being conducted.
The public is again advised to proceed with extreme caution around the work site, and will be informed of any revised traffic arrangements as the need arises.
