Kevin Edwards, 44, was just about to leave his companion’s home along Coconut Alley, Siparia around 4.30 am when a gunman approached him.
Edwards was heading to work at the Water Taxi Terminal at King’s Wharf, San Fernando for the first sailing.
Investigators believe that the gunman was waiting outside the house and as Edwards walked out, he was shot in his stomach and leg.
The father of two, who is originally from Carenage, was taken to the Siparia District Health Facility where he was treated and later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital.
Investigators said that he underwent emergency surgery and was in a critical condition.
It is suspected that the shooting was carried out by an ex-lover of his companion.
Friends said that recently, the man threatened Edwards, causing him to make a police report. On previous occasions, the man was also seen parked outside the Water Taxi Terminal.
A team of detectives from the Siparia CID led by Sgt Jaggernauth responded to the shooting. A search was made for the suspect, but no one was held up to yesterday.
