Police are investigating allegations of sexual assault, robbery, false imprisonment and assault involving a 38-year-old woman from Malgretoute Road, Princes Town, and a 54-year-old man from Princess Margaret Street, San Fernando.
According to a media release, officers attached to the San Fernando Police Station are leading the investigation into the incident, which the woman said began on February 27, 2026.
The woman told investigators she visited the suspect’s home to collect money she said was owed to her. She alleged that after arriving at the residence, the man prevented her from leaving and took several personal items, including cash and identification documents.
Police said the woman further alleged that between March 1 and May 6 she was sexually assaulted by the suspect while being unlawfully detained.
The matter came to the attention of officers on Wednesday, May 6, when police on mobile patrol observed the woman in distress along a roadway in San Fernando.
Officers intervened and arrested the 54-year-old suspect at the scene.
Police said the woman was taken to the Mon Repos Police Station, where she gave a statement to investigators. She was later examined by medical personnel, who documented injuries that police said were consistent with assault.
The suspect remains in police custody pending further investigations.
Police have not yet disclosed whether charges have been laid.
Investigators are continuing enquiries into the matter and are urging anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact the San Fernando Police Station or provide information through official police channels.
The release did not state whether the suspect and the complainant were previously known to each other beyond the alleged financial dispute.
