A 31-year-old mother has died after she lost control of her car and drove off a precipice in Petit Bourg yesterday.
Crystal George was in the vehicle with her eight-year-old daughter when the incident occurred.
“Anybody on the wireless set see if you get anybody to come up…a car run off the cliff by me here,” one man cried for help on a circulating video of the incident.
The girl is in stable condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, however, her mother died at hospital yesterday afternoon.
“A neighbour was bawling, look a car flying,” one neighbour said.
Security footage from nearby houses showed when the freak accident occurred just after 7 am.
“I heard a loud bang, I thought my parrot cage fell,” the neighbour said.
But it was an Almera vehicle that ran off the road above the precipice all the way into Francis Avenue, Irving Street.
It crashed into an avocado tree, missing several houses along the way.
When Guardian Media arrived, parts of the car were still in the tree.
Video footage showed residents immediately assisting when they realised what happened.
One man pulled the child out of the vehicle.
Residents were heard telling the injured woman and child not to move.
The child suffered two broken arms and a broken leg, while the mother had a broken femur.
The ambulance arrived soon after and took the two to the hospital.
Residents say the community is a usually quiet one and described Tuesday’s incident as traumatising.
