Officers of the North Eastern Division rescued a woman from a vehicle in the La Fillette district and arrested a 22-year-old El Dorado man following a reported abduction on Monday.
According to a Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) media release, the victim was at her Diego Martin home around 7.05 pm when a man known to her arrived and asked to speak with her.
When she refused, he allegedly grabbed her, leading to a struggle, during which time she observed what appeared to be a firearm tucked into his waistband. The release stated that the victim managed to push the man out of the house and lock the door. However, he allegedly re-entered through an unsecured kitchen window and searched her bedroom for her cellular phone.
He then allegedly found the phone and took it to his vehicle. When the victim attempted to retrieve it, he allegedly pulled her into the vehicle and drove off against her will.
While travelling along Richplain Road, the victim reportedly jumped from the moving vehicle but was struck by the open car door when the suspect reversed. He then allegedly pulled her back into the vehicle and continued driving in the direction of Maracas.
A report was made to police and officers from the Maracas Police Station responded.
Around 9 pm, officers proceeded to the La Fillette district, where they observed a light blue Toyota Axio with two occupants. As officers approached, the woman exited the vehicle screaming and ran towards them. The male occupant was subsequently arrested.
During the exercise, acting on intelligence, officers searched the area and discovered a Beretta pistol fitted with a magazine containing three rounds of ammunition.
The victim was taken for medical treatment.
Investigations are ongoing.
