RHONDOR DOWLAT-ROSTANT
A woman was shot by a male relative during an argument at their workplace, a family owned and operated food place in Couva, on Monday.
According to a police report, the 34-year-old woman was at her business place at J's and Asha's Kitchen on Southern Main Road, Mc Bean, Couva, when at about 11 am, she had an argument with her relative over a mobile phone he allegedly had bought for her.
Police said the argument escalated and the relative began acting violently and demanded that she give him back the mobile phone.
Police said the woman ran upstairs to her apartment where she raised an alarm, causing other family members to go downstairs with her.
However, police said as the woman reached downstairs, the relative pointed a gun at her, in front of the other family members and shot at her twice. One of the bullets struck her on the right side of her abdomen.
The woman was subsequently taken to the Couva Hospital where she was treated, before being transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital where she was warded in a stable condition.
