The woman whose body was found in Cunupia last week has been positively identified as 26-year-old Jana-Marie Moore, of Phase 6, La Horquetta.
The body was identified by Moore’s father at the Forensic Science Centre in St James on Tuesday.
Last Thursday, at about 2.15 pm, police officers received an anonymous call about the body.
They went to the location where they found the body in some bushes about 20 feet off from Ramcharitar Trace.
The woman's body bore multiple gunshot wounds to the face and upper body, and her hands were bound and her mouth gagged.
Police had described the body as fair in complexion, about five feet five inches tall and medium built. The body was clad in a pink jersey and a pair of pink pants. She was bare-footed, with a tattoo of a rosary around the left ankle.
Police told the Guardian Media that they were able to identify the body after they traced an abandoned vehicle that was found in the area that said day.
The vehicle is owned by one of Moore’s relatives, from whom she had borrowed it on that day to go on a trip to Sangre Grande.
However, a motive is yet to be established for her killing, as relatives told police that they are clueless as to why anybody would want her dead. Police said they were told that Moore never indicated to close relatives that her life was in danger.
Anyone with information as to with whom Jana-Marie Moore was last seen, or any other information that could help solve the case is asked to contact the police at 555, 999, 800 TIPS or 482 GARY.
