The T&T Meteorological Services has activated a Yellow Level Riverine Flood Alert, as at midday, today.
The Alert will remain in effect until 2:00 pm tomorrow, Thursday 12 December.
According to the Met Services team, light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue intermittently over the next several hours.
They warn that landslides and landslips are possible in areas so prone.
In addition, while the main river courses remain contained at this time, smaller rivers and/or tributaries can reach maximum capacity leading to flooding in surrounding areas.
Areas in southern Trinidad are particularly at risk, and forecasters note that some areas in that part of the country already are inundated due to localized ponding, and this may be further exacerbated at high tide.
Citizens are urged to assess their respective environments and river levels. In addition, those in vulnerable areas need to continue monitoring weather updates via metoffice.gov.tt (or https://www.facebook.com/TTMetService).
For additional information on instructions, citizens can monitor the ODPM website at odpm.gov.tt
