Queen's Park Cricket Club (QPCC) recorded the only outright win in the first round of the Eastern Credit Union National League Premier Divison when it beat Ceramic Merryboys by 10 wickets at St Mary's Ground in St Clair yesterday. After bowling out Merryboys for 64 on Saturday, Queen's Park replied with 136 and then limited their opponents to 99-9 by the close of play. Merryboys, who began yesterday 27 runs ahead, lasted just two more overs to post 104, setting Queen's Park a target of 32.
The Parkites knocked off the runs in just 8.1 overs with fast bowler Rashad Harris scoring an unbeaten 25 to go with his match figures of five for 46. The game's standout player was former West Indies allrounder Dwayne Smith, who took six for 15 in Merryboys first innings and then topscored with 70 out of Queen's Park total of 136. Only 17 overs of play were possible on the second day of defending champions Powergen's clash with FC Clarke Road at Syne Village. Powergen began the day on 24 without loss replying to Clarke Road's 231 and reached 87 for two off 24 overs when the match was halted by rain. (NC)
