I am glad to have read in the newspapers that the Ministry of Education and the private Secondary School owners have finally settled their long outstanding problems concerning fee payments for students sent to these school by the ministry.
These owners must be grateful for what the Education Minister did for them by taking this matter to the Cabinet so that serious consideration was given to their call for an increase in fees from the very small amount of one thousand, two hundred dollars which they have been receiving for the past 13 years.
I am also happy that the situation was amicably resolved because it shows the Ministry of Education is serious about education, not only in the Government and church schools but also with the other educational institutions which are helping to prepare the lives of our children to obtain more education opportunities and also for employment purposes.
The settlement also demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to ensuring that every child receives a solid education that would help them become productive citizens in the country.
