Now, let’s be clear, I am a UNC. People say “PNM till ah ded.” I say, “No matter what I eh going red.” But, I am a firm believer in giving honour where it is deserved or due.
I have spent the younger, and now aging part of my life as a resident of the Couva/Talparo constituency. There is no road that I haven’t traversed, and no pothole that I haven’t formally met. I can tell you personally, of the hardships that we as a community have endured as we waited for years to have the Freeport/Todd’s Road bridge repaired.
Our member of Parliament for the area, fellow councillors and others clamored for this crucial artery in and out of Freeport to be fixed—for almost as long as a decade. Finally, help has come! Traffic is no longer at a virtual crawl and safety is no longer compromised and being restored to our thriving community.
Thank you to the Ministry of Works and its divisions for being our saving grace. Thank you to the Minister who officially opened the bridge over the weekend, (I watched the brief ceremony last Saturday from my home, which is mere metres from the actual bridge).
You came, (about a year ago to the area) you toured, you fixed. You may not get my vote, but you have most certainly earned my respect.
