Amrish Rampersad has been chosen to lead T&T U-13 cricket team in their Under-13 Goodwill cricket series against Barbados in December in Trinidad. The T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) released the names of the players yesterday and who has been called to start preparing for the series on Thursday at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain Couva. The team was selected from players who took part in the British Gas Under-13 cricket series. This Goodwill series was started six years ago and has been played yearly ever since.
The teams battle for the Malcolm Marshall trophy for the two-day game and the Inshan Ali Cup for the limited overs matches. Last year, the series was held in Barbados and they invited two other countries and made it an invitational tournament. T&T won that tournament and the Barbadians will be coming over for revenge, after that loss. President of the TTCB, Azim Bassarath said the series is being used as a development programme for the young cricketers. He said winning at that age group is not important, as the focus will be on exposure and development.
